About Neil Kelly, Lake County Clerk
Mr. Kelly was elected as Clerk of the Circuit Court in 2008 to serve a four year term beginning in 2009. Prior to his election Neil Kelly was appointed Clerk of the Circuit Court by Governor Charlie Crist to complete the term of Mr. James C. Watkins who retired after providing 35 years of public service. Mr. Kelly was sworn in as Clerk in November, 2007.
Before his appointment Mr. Kelly served for 21 years under Mr. James C. Watkins, Clerk of the Circuit Court for Lake County. Neil served the last 12 years as Senior Chief Deputy. As Senior Chief Deputy, he provided leadership, direction and coordination to all departments of the Clerk’s Office including Executive Administration, Administrative Services, Courts Management, County Finance, Information Resources, and Internal Audit.
Mr. Kelly is a graduate of the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He earned a Master of Public Administration degree at Troy State University. He successfully completed “Leadership Lake County” a professional leadership program sponsored by the Leesburg Area Chamber of Commerce and Lake/Sumter Community College.
Mr. Kelly attended Tavares High School and has lived in Lake County for over 31 years. He and his wife Sharron are the parents of two children, Amanda and Neil II. Mr. Kelly is active in the community and attends the First Baptist Church of Leesburg with his family.
